Hillel is one of the largest and most versatile student organizations at Emory University. An outlet for any student seeking Jewish community and personal growth, Hillel is a vital part of Emory`s social, cultural, educational and religious life. Emory`s Jewish students have a wealth of opportunities to explore their Jewish journeys with Hillel. Hillel provides a Jewish home away from home and opportunities to explore all things Jewish. By offering a wide array of social, educational, cultural, community service, Israeli and religious programs, Hillel inspires students to own their Jewish experience and to find a meaningful connection to their Jewish heritage. Hillel empowers students to build vital Jewish communities on campus and inspires them to embrace a future of hope and possibility informed by Jewish values. The recently opened Marcus Hillel Center at Emory is the new hub for Jewish life at Emory. Students, faculty, and the community are welcome to drop in, hang out, meet friends, do homework, and enjoy fresh kosher food from Goodfriend`s Grill at Ray's Bistro (opening fall 2010). Hillel holds regular activities on campus and in the Marcus Hillel Center. We partner with Chabad and Meor, as well as many other Jewish organizations in Greater Atlanta. Hillel at Emory is known for special initiatives in public health awareness and advocacy through a Jewish lens. The AIDS Quilt on the Quad is the largest collegiate display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the world on World AIDS Day. The Tritt and Oppenheimer JHealth Leadership Institute invests in pre-med and public health undergraduates through leadership training, public health advocacy, and community service to inspire value-driven careers in healthcare. JHealth and a similar program for business students, JBiz, helps Jewish students advance in their career through meaningful encounters with community leaders. Many students are active in Israel cultural and advocacy projects on campus. Our Challah for Hunger program "raises dough for Darfur" by baking challah and selling on Asbury Circle. For Passover, Hillel coordinates 30 or more intimate and interactive Seders across campus for more than 600 students. And the High Holidays are a time when students can stay on campus and enjoy our Reform and Conservative services, or go into the nearby community for Orthodox or Reconstructionist services. A new kosher meal plan, launched in 2009, is managed by Emory Dining and provides 11 glatt kosher meals per week at a special buffet line in the Dobbs University Center dining hall.
