Campus Profile: Hillel, the Jewish students` organization on campus, strives to be accommodating to students` varying religious and communal needs. Approximately 15% of Middlebury`s student body is Jewish, and members of Hillel have included students from all denominations of Judaism. The Middlebury College Jewish Center, acquired in 1993, is the locale of a rich and varied program of lectures, discussions, brunches, and regular Sabbath evening services and dinners. The Middlebury dining halls always have a vegetarian menu but have no kosher kitchen. The Jewish Center houses a Kosher kitchen open to any student looking to cook a Kosher meal. Weekly, open Board meetings, Kabbalat Shabbat Services and Shabbat dinner are the core activities of Middlebury Hillel. Hillel and the local Havurah join together for High Holiday Services held on campus. Middlebury`s Passover seder had about 110 students and faculty in attendance. The annual Purim party is always a big draw. Community service projects, including an Alternative Spring Break project, have become an important aspect of Middlebury College Hillel.
