Campus Profile:Queens College offers a top-notch education, vibrant Jewish life, and access to all New York has to offer for a fraction of the price of private colleges and universities. Located in New York City, QC has a quad with trees and grass, access to public transportation, and all the benefits of New York City. Thanks to the opening of its first dormitory in 2009, QC now features a strong and growing residential Jewish community that numbers more than 300 students living in the dorm and in surrounding apartments. This is in addition to the thousands of students who commute to school each day. Hillel has grown to become a full-service Jewish community center for both residential and commuter students.
Queens is the most ethnically diverse geographic area in the country, and that diversity is present in the Jewish community as well. Ashkenazi students are joined by Bukharians (from Uzbekistan), Persians (from Iran), Israelis, Russians, and others. We also serve the 9th largest Jewish campus community in the country (more than 4,000 students), and the single largest Orthodox student community attending a secular college (1,000).
Hillel seeks to provide meaningful experiences for all Jewish students. We offer social justice programs, service learning trips, prayer services (4 per day plus Shabbat), Israel experiences (Birthright and more), Jewish learning opportunities and much more. There is something for everyone at QC Hillel!
Shabbat life has blossomed at QC. We offer prayer services every week (Friday night, Saturday morning, and a fabulous Se'udah Shelishit) as well as non-prayer alternatives. We host five Shabbat dinners and three Shabbat lunches per semester, complete with supplementary programming across many subjects and interest areas. If you are looking for a vibrant community in which to celebrate Jewish life with your peers and meet new people, QC could be for you!
Our mission is to create meaningful Jewish experiences that encourage Jewish students to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. Come join us!
