Campus Profile:University of Chicago Hillel seeks to help Jewish students at the University of Chicago explore what it means to them to be Jewish in social, ethnic, artistic, intellectual, spiritual, and other ways. Hillel is a catalyst for the formation of a diverse array of Jewish communities, as well as a resource center that works to help those communities flourish. A talented staff and many student leaders work together to offer an ever-growing array of Jewish experiences and relationships. The Newberger Hillel Center, a beautiful building near the heart of the University of Chicago campus, offers resources that include a large library and film library, meeting and prayer spaces, and Shabbat and holiday meals. Hillel connects students to Jewish experience on and off campus, during the school year and in the summers. Opportunities include courses and programs offered through the University's Chicago Center for Jewish Studies; study abroad opportnities in Israel that students can arrange independently or as part of the University's spring quarter in Israel program; employment opporunities in the local Jewish community; and Hillel's popular Birthright and alternative break trips.
