Campus Profile:

St. Louis Hillel serves the more than 2,000 Jewish students who attend Washington University in St. Louis and other St. Louis colleges and universities. Hillel strives to inspire Jewish college students to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life. Its mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students in St. Louis so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. Hillel realizes its mission by engaging students with innovative programs and initiatives in the areas of social justice and service (tzedek and tikkun olam), Israel, religious life, Jewish culture and education, and leadership development. St. Louis Hillel offers meals, services and programs centered around the Jewish holidays and traditional religious observances ranging from High Holy Day services to Hanukkah and Purim parties and Passover Seders and meals. Every Friday night, Hillel welcomes students for Shabbat with student-led Reform, Conservative and Orthodox services followed by a festive kosher Shabbat dinner. St. Louis Hillel also offers students the opportunity to celebrate Jewish holidays and Shabbat in their dorms, fraternity houses and apartments through the Shabbat and Holiday In-a-Box and Do Your Own Seder programs, where students are provided with all of the items and resources necessary to create their own enduring holiday traditions. Through the Peer-Network Engagement Internship and FYSH: First Year Students of Hillel, students reach out to their peers to engage them in diverse and meaningful Jewish opportunities and experiences. A number of immersion experiences are offered by St. Louis Hillel throughout the year including one or more Taglit-Birthright Israel trips, an alternative Spring Break service trip, and Winter Break and/or Summer service trips to various locations in Central and South America or the United States. St. Louis Hillel also advises and/or oversees Washington University`s Jewish Student Union, Wash U Students for Israel, Aviva (the Greek women`s Jewish leadership initiative), Challah for Hunger, and other programming (social, LGBT, interfaith, cross-cultural, and Women`s Series to name a few). St. Louis Hillel is accredited by Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.
