Eckerd Hillel is what we like to think of as a "Start-Up" Hillel. The Jewish student population is growing and everyone can make a serious difference in the scope and quality of Jewish life at Eckerd College. We have bi-weekly Shabbat dinners and a monthly bagel brunch as well as weekly classes of Jewish interest from the Campus Rabbi. Our Scuba Club, Scubi Jew, is especially proud of the Tikkun Olam programs they facilitate; from monthly Coral Reef Restoration trips in the Keys, to Tampa Bay Cleanup Projects and our very own "Mei-Manatees" experience which puts students in the water with manatees to learn about this endangered species and our responsibility as Jews to preserve the world. We are also fortunate to have Prof. Elie Wiesel as a member of our faculty during winter session. He also addresses the entire freshmen class every year. While our Hillel is small, Eckerd College is a great place to be a Jewish student; and the mile and a half of beach front property on campus makes it a great place just to be a student... especially in January.
