Nearly 500 students packed into the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum last week to make 5,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fill 3,000 bags of trail mix for a program that aids a Washington soup kitchen.
Snack Pack Attack, as the program is called, was co-sponsored by the Jewish Social Action Committee and the Jewish Student Union, which also donated $300 collected from tickets at the door and T-shirt sales to the Washington-based soup kitchen Martha's Table, which services the city's homeless population.
