Rutgers Hillel celebrated Tu B'Shvat, the Jewish Arbor Day, with a birthday party for the trees. All of the traditional Tu B'Shvat foods were present, along with falafel and more. And it wouldn't be a birthday party without birthday cake!
Instead of bringing presents, students brought spare change to donate to JNF, the Jewish National Fund, which plants trees in Israel.
"There were at least 50 students eating falafel, talking about Israel's environmental innovations, and trying dates and figs for the first time," said Avi Smolen, a senior at Rutgers.
