The month of Cheshvan — the second month of the Jewish calendar — is traditionally known as "Bitter Cheshvan"; the High Holy Days are over, and gloom sets in as the leaves fall from the trees. A new initiative, however, aims to take some of the bitterness out of Cheshvan by transforming it into Jewish Social Action Month. Adina Danzig, the executive director of Hillel at Stanford University, is a member of the Kol Dor, the group behind the effort, and is helping spread the word throughout the global network of Hillels.
