Shimrit Kassa, Elad Horesh and Hila Kugler are ordinary Israeli college students. But unlike American college students, they served a mandatory few years in the Israeli military, the Israeli Defense Forces, before they had college careers.
For two weeks Kassa, Horesh and Kugler came to America to share their experiences.
They are part of a non-profit and non-political organization called Israel at Heart. The organization's main goal is to portray Israel in a positive light and disprove the negative misconceptions spread by the media. This year the organization sent 35 Israeli students in groups of three to college campuses in the US and Canada. Kassa, Horesh and Kugler were assigned to campuses in the Midwest. On Friday night at the Hillel Foundation for Jewish Campus Life at Purdue, Kassa, Horesh and Kugler shared their experiences with students.
