Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life announced the winners of its 2011 Philip H. and Suzi Rudd Cohen Student Exemplar of Excellence and Campus of Excellence Awards at the recent Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly meeting in Denver.
The Student Exemplar of Excellence Award is given to five students who have displayed exemplary leadership on their respective campuses by inspiring others to act and lead, building meaningful relationships, fostering innovation and creativity, and modeling and inspiring Jewish growth. Selected from among numerous nominations, the awardees are: Will Eastman of Rutgers University; Benjamin Elkind of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Erika Rief of Emory University; Toby Ring of the State University of New York at Geneseo; and Joshua Yudkin of Washington University in Saint Louis. Each winner receives a prize of $150 and a plaque in recognition of their outstanding leadership efforts.
The Campus of Excellence Award recognizes the efforts of local Hillels to empower student leadership and foster engagement, activism, education and university partnership. Two awards are given, one to a small-campus Hillel and one to a large-campus Hillel. This year’s awardees are Dickinson College Hillel (small campus) and The University of Michigan Hillel (large campus). Each receives a prize of $1,000 as well as a plaque and trophy in recognition of their extraordinary achievements.
