Tufts Hillel Up to the “Neubauer Challenge”
November 19, 2007Comments (1) | Add | E-mail this to a friendTufts University Trustee and long-time Tufts Hillel supporter Joe Neubauer, along with his wife Jeanette, recently issued a $750,000 challenge grant to Tufts Hillel where they will match, dollar for dollar, every new gift and pledge made to the Tufts Hillel Program Endowment campaign contributed after July 1 of this year. This grant will allow Tufts Hillel to achieve a $6.4 million program endowment which will be approximately $600,000 more than the initial goal of $5.8 million. “The Neubauer Challenge represents our largest campaign contribution to date and we so appreciate their commitment to our success,” says Executive Director of Tufts Hillel Rabbi Jeffrey Summit. The Campaign for Tufts Hillel Program Endowment was established two years ago as a way to sustain and expand Tufts Hillel education; social justice; Shabbat and holiday observance; interfaith dialogue; health and wellness; and Israel advocacy and cultural programs. “[The endowment program] will enable us to impact the lives of twice as many students and develop additional creative programs and partnerships within the Tufts community,” said Judith Canter, director of development for Tufts Hillel. According to Canter, Hillel has so far received more than 300,000 gifts and pledges as part of the Neubauer Challenge Grant. “The challenge is motivating to people,” she said. Tufts Hillel is hoping to reach the final goal by the end of December 2007.
