On behalf of 400,000 Jewish students across the globe, Hillel expresses its heartfelt condolences to our many friends in the campus Catholic community on the passing of their beloved leader, Pope John Paul II.

The Pope was a towering leader of the 20th Century who modeled a life of courage, intelligence, integrity and faith. His unprecedented efforts to reach out to the Jewish community through his visits to Israel, Auschwitz and to the Rome synagogue, demonstrated a profound compassion for the Jewish community. His forthright work to bring freedom to the oppressed and to ensure social justice for the needy is an example to anyone of good will. By placing young people at the forefront of his ministry he demonstrated the importance of education in shaping a better world.

Hillel looks forward to working with its Catholic counterparts to create harmonious communities on campus and beyond.

President
