Sukkah with a View
Hillel's Schusterman International Center is celebrating its first Sukkot in the Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Building with the only sukkah in the world with a view of the U.S. Capitol building -- and the Chinatown arch. Located on the ninth floor of the building, the sukkah has welcomed many local workers who relish this opportunity to celebrate the holiday properly in downtown Washington, D.C.
Sukkot Survivor
Campuses take the holiday of Sukkot to a new level as they turn this eight-day festival into a real-life game based on the CBS TV show "Survivor". Students of different faiths at the University of Florida and at Hillel Uruguay were selected to live in a sukkah while highlighting important Jewish values such as teamwork and helping those less fortunate. Just like the TV show, participants are voted out and the last to remain is the sole survivor. Prizes range from free textbooks for a semester to a new motor scooter. Defacement of Jewish Structure Brings Community Closer Together
Two hand-size swastikas were found on a sukkah at the University of Colorado at Boulder this weekend. However, Hillel leaders turned this cowardly act into an occasion to promote tolerance as campus groups and community members came together to denounce the attack, learn about the holiday of Sukkot and teach against hate.
