Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life is recruiting a delegation of Spanish-speaking undergraduate and graduate student leaders from North America to participate in the 10th Encuentro de Dirigentes de Instituciones y Comunidades Judias Latinoamericanas y del Caribe, popularly known as the "Latin American General Assembly." The theme of the conference is "Community Institutions: Models That Respond to the Needs of the Region's Jews." Thanks to the generosity of New York businessman and philanthropist Herbert Neuman, Hillel expects to select up to 10 Neuman Fellows to travel to the event in Argentina this May 8-14.

The Hillel delegation will assemble in Buenos Aires on May 8 as guests of Hillel Argentina to explore the largest Jewish community in Latin America. The "Latin American GA," sponsored by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the AMIA Comunidad Judia, will take place in Mar del Plata, Argentina on May 10-14. The Hillels in Latin America are planning a special Shabbat dinner on Friday night with Hillel students from throughout the region.

Neuman Fellows will receive a $700 stipend toward their airfare plus lodging, meals, ground transportation and programming throughout the week. Candidates must complete a short application detailing student leadership background, language proficiency and prior travel experience. A valid U.S. or Canadian passport and proof of medical insurance is required of all participants. Jewish education, Jewish studies and Jewish communal leadership majors are encouraged to apply.
