Colorado State Hillel students.
Hillel at Colorado State University (CSU) and Students for Holocaust Awareness Week were once again winners at the university’s 5th Annual Student Organization Awards Recognition (SOAR) ceremony. Staff, students and family members were in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of CSU’s registered student organizations and student leaders.
As one of 300 student groups at CSU, Students for Holocaust Awareness received two awards at the banquet held at the Lory Student Center Ballroom. Holocaust Awareness Week at CSU won for Outstanding Cultural Awareness Program and Outstanding Small Organization.
SOAR recognizes student organizations and individuals for their contributions to CSU throughout the year in general and specifically, for leadership, marketing, programming, community service, character and advising. All winners were selected by a committee of CSU faculty, students and Fort Collins community members. The awards were nominated by students.
“Holocaust Awareness Week at Colorado State University is such an important event and it really brings CSU and the Fort Collins community together in remembrance for those who perished during the Holocaust,” said Carmody Leerssen, president of Students for Holocaust Awareness Week and a member of CSU Hillel’s leadership team.
“Hillel at CSU and Students for Holocaust Awareness Week have continued to win numerous awards since the inception of the SOAR Awards,” said CSU Hillel Campus Director Hedy Berman. “It’s truly a tribute to our outstanding student leaders and all the hard work they put in to generate outstanding programming.”
