Hillel's key stakeholders - professional, lay and student leaders -- have helped Hillel earn an international reputation for creating quality campus communities. A key factor in this achievement has been our commitment to universal operating standards and practices as expressed through our accreditation process. Hillel is committed to excellence, innovation, accountability and results. In the past 15 years, accreditation has become a defining feature of a quality Hillel Foundation.
Today's challenge however is to go beyond "quality" to attain a level of excellence in every aspect of a Hillel's operation. This publication, "Achieving Excellence," defines the standards of excellence that serve as guideposts for every Hillel Foundation. Each standard is listed, and is followed by examples of how it can be measured. The standards, while comprehensive, do not include all of Hillel's policies, many of which are subject to change in the future.
"Achieving Excellence" is the product of experiences and observations of many of Hillel's leaders. They include a clear articulation of our fundamental values, such as the importance of creating a pluralistic, welcoming and inclusive environment for Jewish college students, where they are encouraged to grow intellectually, spiritually and socially, which is why "Achieving Excellence" begins with the section on Jewish Student Life.
We hope that this publication will help Hillel leaders to fulfill our mission of enriching the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.
