What is a Moishe House?
Moishe Houses, initiated by the Forest Foundation and the Center for Leadership Initiatives, are a collection of homes throughout the world that serve as hubs for young adult Jewish community. Since December 2005, the Moishe House network has grown from two houses in Northern California to 21 communities worldwide and is increasingly celebrated for its creative, grassroots method of Jewish programming.
Building on the success of the Moishe House concept, and as part of a long term strategy to connect Jewish students worldwide, Hillel has teamed up with the Forest Foundation and Polinger Family Foundation to create Moishe Houses in two of the most popular study abroad destinations, Paris and Rome. These European Moishe Houses, occupied by both North American and local Jewish students, will help create a community for Jewish students abroad and foster relationships between American Jewish students and their European counterparts.
A Moishe House resident is expected to...
- Host 6-12 events (including Shabbat and holiday programs) per month together with the other residents and build a community centered on the house
- Actively engage with the local Jewish student population, as well as other Jewish students from around the world
- Utilize online resources to advertise events, upload pictures, blog, and more
- Participate in monthly calls with representatives from Hillel and the Forest Foundation
Check out the current houses and learn more about the Moishe House Initiative at the Forest Foundation website.
