22nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Homeless New Yorkers

by Marcos Askenazi |Dec 02, 2009|Comments

The Brooklyn College Hillel recently hosted its 22nd annual Thanksgiving dinner for homeless New Yorkers. The program, created 22 years ago by then-director Linda Askenazi, was a huge success. Hillel partnered with student clubs, fraternities, sororities, and local agencies including the New York City Department of Homeless Services to facilitate the event. One hundred and three homeless people attended the festive meal complete with music, dancing, entertainment and of course turkey. A diverse committee of students planned and implemented this multicultural event including black, Indian, Muslim and Jewish students. The event, coordinated by Marcos Askenazi, Hillel's "Community In Action Coordinator" demonstrated Hillel's commitment to the Jewish community and the greater New York community. The Brooklyn College Hillel is proud to be recognized for its community involvement and social justice efforts.
