Hillel International Expands Flagship Fellowship to Foster Next Generation of Jewish Leaders

Third cohort of Springboard Fellowship will expand early career opportunities and increase innovative Jewish engagement on campus

WASHINGTON – Creating more opportunities for early career professionals, Hillel International will expand its flagship Springboard Fellowship for recent graduates next fall through $1.5 million in new investments. The third cohort will bring 40 new young professionals to campus, creating an unprecedented total network of 77 Fellows deployed across the country to engage students with innovative Jewish programming.

The ‘gimmel’ class of the Springboard Fellowship will, as in previous years, include an Innovation Track, which will train fellows to spark ideas, connect with students in new ways, and infuse creativity into campus Hillel programming. This track is ideal for recent graduates who may not previously have considered pursuing a career in Jewish communal life.

New this year is the Ezra Jewish Education Track, which will train Springboard Fellows to introduce Jewish learning to campus life by incorporating their passions for Jewish wisdom, history, and culture into their work with students. This track is ideal for recent graduates with an interest in Jewish education and deep roots in the Jewish community and will incorporate young professionals who are currently part of Hillel International’s Ezra Fellowship.

The revitalized Springboard Fellowship allows young professionals to interact with and learn from one another, and partner to create diverse and unique programming for students on 68 campuses. The two-year program provides fellows with hands-on mentorship, competitive compensation and dynamic professional development opportunities from local and national Hillel staff, as well as experts from across the corporate and non-profit worlds.

“By expanding our existing fellowships, we are enhancing a platform that will allow these early-career professionals to network with their peers and learn from one another’s approaches to engaging students on campus,” said Mimi Kravetz, Chief Talent Officer of Hillel International. “Our Springboard Fellows not only galvanize their respective communities, but at the same time, jump-start their careers in tangible ways.”

Hillel International launched the Springboard Fellowship in 2016 to train young Jewish professionals in highly-valued skillsets and place them at local Hillel campuses for two years. The Springboard Fellowship is a reimagining of the Steinhardt Jewish Campus Service Corps Fellowship, which Hillel ran from 1994 to 2008 and trained a generation of emerging Jewish communal leaders through their roles in Jewish student engagement.

Fellows will receive salary, benefits and ongoing professional development funded by a partnership between their campus Hillels and Hillel International, and through generous support from the Beacon and Shapira Foundation, Mosaic United, Marcus Foundation and the Diane and Guilford Glazer Foundation. The Ezra Fellowship was founded through a generous four-year grant from the Maimonides Fund.

“Years from now, we look back at the launch of the Springboard Fellowship as the defining moment in talent development for the next era of Jewish life,” Kravetz said. “Hillel couldn’t be prouder at our efforts to serve students while building this critical pipeline”
