Hillel Board Elects Columbus' Neil Moss Chairman

 Meeting in Washington, D.C., the Hillel: Foundation for Jewish Campus Life Board of Directors elected Ohio businessman and civic leader Neil Moss chairman, succeeding Chuck Newman of Ann Arbor. As chairman of Hillel's Development Committee, Moss helped Hillel complete its six-year, $200 million Campaign for Jewish Renaissance, one year ahead of schedule and $10 million above its original goal. Hillel: FJCL Board of Directors is Hillel's highest policymaking body.
"Neil Moss is one of the most astute, devoted leaders in the Jewish community today," says Hillel President and International Director Richard M. Joel. "Not only does he bring a profound strategic sense to his work with Hillel but he is also a master in the art of articulating Hillel's message."
The two-day Board meeting reviewed current Hillel activities and set policies for the coming year. The Board:
Welcomed new Board members, including six students: Davi Bernstein, Yale ('03), Eric Bukstein, University of Michigan ('03); Aaron Kasman, University of Toronto ('03); Aviva Kieffer, Rutgers University ('03); Ariel Oxman, University of Maryland, College Park ('03); and Aron Pinkussohn, Quinnipiac University ('03).
Elected a new slate of officers: Chair Neil Moss, Vice-Chair Randall Kaplan, Vice-Chair Carol Wise, Vice-Chair Aviva Keiffer, Treasurer Julian Sandler, Secretary Marlene Post, President Richard M. Joel, Ex-Officio Edgar M. Bronfman.
Announced the completion of Hillel's Campaign for Jewish Renaissance. The Campaign raised $210 million in five years -- one year ahead of schedule and $10 million above its original goal.
Approved new standards of accreditation for Hillel Foundations.
Reviewed the creation of a Hillel Foundation in Uruguay and discussed the feasibility of Foundations in Brazil and Argentina.
Applauded a significant grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation for Tzedek Hillel and the development of Hillel in Latin America, and the creation of the Kaplan Campus Transformation Fund which will provide strategic grants for local Hillels.
Reviewed plans for Hillel's Department of Campus Israel Affairs, a new department headed by Michael Jankelowitz who also serves as the first Jewish Agency shaliach to Hillel.
Discussed a strategic plan for Hillel's Joseph Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Learning that will facilitate significant Jewish learning in local Hillels.
Reviewed preliminary data from Hillel's 2001 Self-Assessment Survey.
Discussed the further development of the Tzedek Hillel program through which local Hillels make a special commitment to social justice programming.
