Dr. Ruth attends Hillel's International Staff Conference and was named honorary chair of Hillel's new 'Love Is Real' campaign. Sex Therapist to Chair Hillel "love is real" Pro-Israel Campaign

World-renowned sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer and Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life are teaming up to get college students to be passionate... about Israel.

Dr. Ruth will serve as international honorary chair of Hillel's new "love is real" pro-Israel campaign. The world's largest Jewish campus organization and the diminutive diva of responsible romance are joining together to introduce college students to one of the world's oldest love stories: the romance between the people of Israel and the Land of Israel.

"The relationship between the Jewish people and Israel can serve as a model," says Dr. Ruth. "It is loving, lasting, and responsible."

"This is a 4,000-year-old story," explains Hillel Interim International President Avraham Infeld. "We are thrilled that Dr. Ruth has agreed to serve as international honorary chair. Through the 'love is real' campaign we want to show college students the many dimensions of this love affair."

Dr. Ruth, a Holocaust survivor who fought in Israel's War of Independence, is a longstanding supporter of Israel. An author, college professor, and media celebrity, Dr. Ruth is a frequent lecturer on college campuses where her candid, frank advice on sexuality has earned the respect of college students.

"Students trust Dr. Ruth, whether she's discussing an overactive libido or biblical Megiddo," says Hillel's Center for Israel Affairs Director Wayne Firestone. "This campaign will help students understand that anyone can love Israel, whether they are is interested in business, or art, or social justice."

Dr. Ruth will launch the "love is real" campaign at Hillel's international Professional Staff Conference in Princeton, N.J. More than 350 students will be introduced to "love is real" initiative during a special December mission to Israel. Students on the mission will participate in one of four tracks designed to expose them to different aspects of Israeli society: Jewish learning and pluralism through Hillel's Joseph Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Learning; Advanced Advocacy, co-sponsored by AIPAC; social justice; or business and technology. The mission will include five days of intensive seminars, workshops and site visits. Hillel is also bringing 2,300 students to Israel this winter through the birthright israel program.

The "love is real" campaign will continue back on campus in the United States. Hillel Grinspoon Israel Advocacy Interns, a group of 60 student leaders, will create innovative pro-Israel programs on their campuses. Hillel will provide AVI CHAI grants to students to design and implement creative programs. Buttons, postcards, posters and other materials have been prepared that highlight different aspects of Israeli society.

The largest Jewish campus organization in the world, Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, is committed to creatively empowering and engaging Jewish students through its network of over 500 campus Foundations, Program Centers and affiliates. Its long-standing dedication to building Jewish identity, while nurturing intellectual and spiritual growth in a pluralistic community, positions Hillel as a leader in building a stronger Jewish people and stronger Jewish future.
