Hillel International Board of Governors Co-Chair Michael Steinhardt, a man known for his largeness as well as his largesse, and Hillel Interim President Avraham Infeld, known for his rotundity as well as his profundity, are going belly to belly, girth to girth in a high-stakes, winner-take-all battle to lose weight for charity. If Steinhardt loses the three-month-long diet contest, he will donate $250,000 to charities; Infeld will donate $5,000 should he lose.
The Battle of the Bulge began on January 15 and will conclude in April. All proceeds from the contest will go to the Steinhardt Foundation in Jerusalem, Hillel: the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, and Melitz, the Jewish education organization founded by Mr. Infeld.
The two very big men on campus are encouraging individuals and Hillel Foundations to participate in the contest by pledging money in support of either contestant. Individuals may demonstrate their support for either Mr. Infeld or Mr. Steinhardt by contacting Hillel Director of Business Affairs Karen Walker.
"I look forward to seeing less of Avraham in the future," said Mr. Steinhardt.
"Not only will I help Michael shed pounds, I will help him shed dollars as well," retorted Mr. Infeld.
The largest Jewish campus organization in the world, Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, is committed to creatively empowering and engaging Jewish students through its network of over 500 regional centers, campus foundations, program centers and affiliates. Its long-standing dedication to building Jewish identity, while nurturing intellectual and spiritual growth in a pluralistic community, positions Hillel as a leader in building a stronger Jewish people and stronger Jewish future.
