Hillel President Avraham Infeld led the list of Hillel professionals and students honored by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee at its annual Policy Conference held in Washington, D.C. More than 850 AIPAC student activists from 200 campuses attended the awards luncheon on Monday, May 17.
Hillel President Avraham Infeld was named an Advocate of the Year along with Chabad Washington Representative Rabbi Levi Shemtov and CLAL President Rabbi Irwin Kula. The announcement of President Infeld's award received a standing ovation from the students. Hillel: Foundation for Jewish Campus Life Board of Directors Chairman Designate Randall Kaplan accepted the award on behalf of Infeld, who was attending the funeral of International Board of Governors member Henry Everett.
Hillel International Board of Governors Co-Chair Lynn Schusterman helped to welcome the students to the luncheon.
Four Hillel campus professionals were recognized as Allies of the Year: Leora Shudofsky, assistant director, Hillel at Columbia University and Barnard College; Jennifer Baer Lotsoff, senior Jewish student life coordinator, St. Louis Hillel at Washington University; Margo Sack, associate director, Texas Hillel Foundation; and Greg Steinberger, executive director, University of Wisconsin, Madison Hillel.
In addition, four groups of student leaders were honored: Cornell, Texas, Florida and Alabama. The Duke Rudman Annual Leadership Award was presented to students from University of California, Berkeley.
