Monster Menorah: Where Extreme Makeover Meets Chanukah

Beach Hillel is bringing the fun back this year with Monster Menorah, a menorah design competition open to college students everywhere. The creator of the winning menorah will win $250.
The menorah is a nine-branched candelabra lit during the eight days of Chanukah, which begins the evening of Dec. 7 this year. The menorah celebrates the light of religious freedom, which pierced the darkness of tyranny and persecution.
Competition Rules:
In order to qualify for the competition, all menorahs must be delivered to the Beach Hillel table in front of the California State University, Long Beach Bookstore by 10 a.m. on Dec. 8 or mailed to Beach Hillel at 3801 E. Willow St., Long Beach, CA 90815 and arriving prior to Dec. 8. Any entry that is deemed offensive by the organizers will be disqualified. Students will judge the entries on Dec. 8 at the CSULB campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All students participating must follow the rules below:
1. All menorahs must have nine working lights.
2. Eight lights must stand at the same height, and the ninth must be set apart or higher.
3. The menorah can use any form of light source that can burn for 18 minutes or more.
4. It can be made out of any material and may be any size or shape.
5. It must be made by a student registered at a college or university.
6. Electric menorahs must be operate on 120 voltage to be plugged in at the contest site.
7. Employees of Beach Hillel are not permitted to enter into the competition.
8. Each menorah must be accompanied by an entry form (download it below).
