Call Shaker Heights native Catherine Schaberg a designing woman, and she will take it as a compliment.

During her junior year at Carnegie Mellon, Schaberg's passion and exceptional talent in industrial design caught the eye of Aaron Weil, the newly hired executive director of the university's three-year-old Hillel Jewish University Center.

Although the building was impressive, says Weil, the front lobby was "a gray, carpeted cavernous area filled with starkly modern furniture." Weil wanted to make this area much more student-friendly, so he asked Schaberg, 21, and her classmate, Carin Rogoff, to use their skills and good judgment to buy cozy, functional furniture to fill the space.
