Hillel President Avraham Infeld issued the following statement in support of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee:
"It has recently been reported that our partner, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, has been accused of involvement in inappropriate activities and is currently under federal investigation. AIPAC rigorously denies this accusation stating: 'Any allegation of criminal conduct by AIPAC or our employees is false and baseless. Neither AIPAC nor any of its employees has violated any laws or rules, nor has AIPAC or its employees ever received information they believed was secret or classified.'
"Those of us who work intimately with AIPAC understand the organization's passion for fostering closer ties between Israel and the United States. AIPAC has succeeded in strengthening the strategic alliance of these two great, democratic nations, decade after decade, through times of peace and turbulence. AIPAC's achievements on the global stage are echoed in its contributions on individual campuses.
"We firmly believe that AIPAC would do nothing to endanger the U.S.-Israel relationship or to undermine the organization's long history of achievement. We applaud AIPAC for cooperating with authorities to put these charges to rest. Hillel remains AIPAC's committed partner in Washington and on campus. We cannot allow these charges to deter us from jointly educating students about Israel, strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship or ensuring Israel's peace and security."
