It was Jewish Heritage Day at Shea Stadium last Sunday before the Mets-Dodgers game, but Yom Kippur, just a few weeks away, is the day that's circled on Dodgers calendars. Like Sandy Koufax before him, Shawn Green, the Dodgers Jewish right fielder, will out of the lineup for the Dodgers game that day.
"Two games," Green told The Jewish Week in the Dodgers dugout before the game. He's already checked the calendar. There's a game on Kol Nidre night and another on Yom Kippur afternoon, games against the Giants that may decide the National League West, where the Giants trail the first place Dodgers by four games. The Dodgers rely on Green; as of Tuesday, he was second on the team with 22 homers and 72 RBIs.
