In one of her first public appearances since losing her bid for the U.S. Senate, Rep. Denise Majette (D-Ga.) quoted Ray Charles in remarks aimed at uniting Jews and African-Americans.
While on the surface it is "surprising" to see blacks and Jews together, she said, their shared belief in God and common values allow them to relate on universal special issues.
Majette spoke last week at Georgia Tech during an event honoring the late singer that was sponsored by Students for Israel and the Black Graduate Student Association.
