When Jay Reid applied to Virginia Tech five years ago, his parents worried that there wouldn't be enough of a Jewish community.

When Samara Kuhn applied last year, her sense of the school was completely different.

"I saw that there were 1,200 Jews here, looked at the [school's] Hillel Web site, talked to people at AEPi," she said, referring to the Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi. "I heard [the university was] trying to start a Jewish sorority, so it seemed like it was kind of progressing."
