As two candles lit the hall room of the Hillel Center, Jewish students at Texas A&M started their celebration of Spirit of Shabbat of 2005. Senior bioenvironmental science major Rebecca Price lit the candles and blessed over them at the event, which took place Friday night.
The date of The Spirit of Shabbat, which is a national, annual event, is determined by Hillel. It is geared toward education, said Carlie Dorshaw, a sophomore political science major and vice president of public relations on the Texas A&M Hillel student board. Dorshaw said 120 people attended this year's Shabbat, twice as many as last year.
