More than 50 displaced Jewish students have contacted the University chapter of Hillel for a sense of community since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast.
The growing Jewish community on campus prompted a meeting Sept. 27 among national Jewish campus advocate executives and University officials to assess the needs of the University's growing Jewish community.
Plans were made for Hillel to contribute to the Katrina relief effort and to organize and expand existing Jewish organizations to make the University a more desirable campus for potential Jewish students.
