Hillel Offers Taglit-birthright israel Trip for Students Displaced by Hurricane Katrina
September 20, 2005Comments (0) | Add | E-mail this to a friendHillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and Taglit-birthright israel will set aside a bus exclusively for students who were displaced from their universities due to Hurricane Katrina. Students participate in the free, 10-day trip to Israel this winter by selecting Tulane University as their campus. Registration is open until Oct. 27, but spots are limited, so students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
In order to qualify, participants must be 18-26, Jewish, have never before traveled on a peer-group trip to Israel and were unable to study at their college or university this fall because of Hurricane Katrina's destruction. Like in all Taglit-birthright israel trips, students will tour the country from the mountains of the north to the Dead Sea, to Jerusalem's ancient structures, to the beaches of Tel Aviv. They will also participate in a variety of community-service projects as a way of giving back to the global Jewish community that supported them after the tragic storm. Hillel's trip is part of Taglit-birthright israel, an international partnership of philanthropists, Jewish communities and the State of Israel dedicated to providing Jews between the ages of 18-26 with a first, free 10-day trip to Israel. Hillel is the largest provider of Taglit-birthright israel trips in North America, with more than 17,500 participants since 2000.
