University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Boosts Israeli Studies, Reinstates Study-Abroad Program

Speaking to JUF's Jewish Community Relations Council at its December meeting, Richard Herman, chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, announced that the university is committed to match Federation funding for Israel Studies at UIUC over the next five years.

Herman also announced plans to reinstate the university's Israel study-abroad program next year .The announcement came after a yearlong campaign, launched by Eli Wald, a junior at UIUC and the JCRC/Hillel intern.

JCRC and the campus Hillel were both extensively involved in advocating for the program's reinstatement after the administration canceled UIUC's direct program with Hebrew University in 2002.
