Hillel joins the Bronfman family in mourning the loss of beloved Andrea Bronfman, the wife of Hillel International Board of Governors member Charles Bronfman, who died tragically this morning when she was hit by a car.

Andy Bronfman was a devoted supporter of Israel and Jewish education, promoting a host of innovative initiatives to engage more and more Jews in the beauty of their heritage. Together with Charles, the Bronfmans were co-founders of the Taglit-birthright israel program, among other cutting-edge endeavors.

Hillel International President Avraham Infeld first met Andy when he was a shaliach in London in the 1960s. "My memory constantly shifts from the young Andy Morrison, beautiful and full of life, to Andy Bronfman, still beautiful and full of life, but a generous and committed Jewish leader. She embodied the spirit of Jewish life, bursting with energy, enthusiasm, passion and creativity," said Avraham.

"We can best memorialize Andy by continuing the important work she pioneered," added Randall Kaplan, chairman of Hillel's Board of Directors. "This is a tragic loss to the Bronfman family, to Hillel and to the Jewish people."

Andy Bronfman was the sister-in-law of Hillel International Board of Governors Chairman Edgar M. Bronfman.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday in Jerusalem. Plans for a memorial service are now being made. Messages of condolence may be sent to the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies, 110 East 59th Street, Floor 26, New York, NY 10022.

May the Bronfman family be comforted among the mourners of Zion.
