Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life has launched an online petition drive asking U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to “clearly and immediately reaffirm the right of Israel to defend its citizens and ensure its security in the face of relentless attacks, killings and kidnappings by Hezbollah.”
The petition is available at: http://www.hillel.org/supportisrael
The drive began before the Secretary General issued a statement condemning Israel while failing to call Hezbollah a terrorist group. That statement was denounced by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Organizations which wrote: “While recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, he strongly criticized their actions as supposedly ‘disproportionate.’ More than 1500 missiles have been shot across Israel’s international border with Lebanon by the terror apparatus with sophisticated equipment supplied by the leading state sponsor of international terror, Iran, and its proxy, Syria.”
Hillel’s petition to the Secretary General continues: “We urge you to do everything in your power to help secure the release of Israel's abducted soldiers and to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1559, which requires establishing Lebanon's sovereignty and the authority of its government throughout the country; the disbanding and disarmament of all militias; and the deployment of the Lebanese army along the border with Israel.”
As of this writing, the petition has garnered 8,000 signatures.
