Our prayers are with the students, faculty, staff, and families of Virginia Tech today and will be for quite some time. This afternoon when I lead my Hebrew School community in a program on the Shoah we will light additional candles for the victims of this horrible tragedy. I might be a Spartan, an Alum of San Jose State and past president of our Hillel there... but I know today we are all Hokies.

As a Va. Tech alumna, my heart breaks at what the student body has had to endure.  My deepest sympathies to all the victims and their friends and families.  You, the students, will remain in my daily prayers for what you have endured.

I just would like to share my sympathy and prayers for all of you there.  There has not been a moment that has gone by where I have not thought about you.  Everyone here has you in their prayers and we support all of you.  We are all part of a strong community and we are here for each other.

They are all of our children and every parent carries a weight on their heart for every child that was lost or scarred physically and emotionally.  I, for one, find it hard to hear all the talk of healing right now...that comes later...right now it's time for grief and prayer for strength.   Love from one Jewish mother to all of the parents and the children at Virginia Tech and all of those touched by this tragedy.
Posted By: Cathy on 4/20/2007 1:48:00 PM

My prayers are with all of you. Stay strong.

It saddens me to hear about the horrible incident at Virgina Tech, and my wishes go out to everyone. I especially want to note the courage and bravery of the Jewish professor who died and saved all his students.  I think something should be done in his memory.

My heart aches for the entire Virginia Tech community.  May the memories of those who were murdered ever be for a blessing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Their are no words to say how saddened and terrible we feel for all of you on the loss of the 32 beautiful, wonderful people who were killed by this sick man. You have our deepest sympathy.

It is our fervent wish that this Shabbat will bring you some solace and peace after the most horrific week you have endured.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. As a New Yorker, who saw the smoke rise from the Twin Towers on Sept. 11th, I can  imagine the horror you are going through, having,  innocent lives of your friends & teachers taken by senseless madness. Be comforted by the good in the world - it is there, and we are all bonded by the love and respect for humankind that we share.

As a mother of a college student, I grieve with all the parents of the victims of this horrible crime.Beyond this I can not find the words to express my pain at your loss...but, my heart prayers and thoughts are  with you.

How tragic, what a waste...our thoughts and prayers are with all the families, staff, and students so deeply affected by this event.  As a mother of a college student, I only wanted to reach out to my son to know he was alright.   May those who were so needlessly taken rest in peace, and may the world we live in find a way to curb such useless and needless acts of violence.
Posted By: Saul on 4/20/2007 2:52:00 PM

It is so hard to find words to comfort those affected by this tragidy. To those directly affected our condolences. To those wounded and injured may you all have a quick and complete recovery in body and mind. I am an alum of Temple University. But today I am, in spirit, with all of you, students, teachers, staff, at VTech.
May G-d's blessings be upon you all. Shalom

Such a waste of future talent, creativness, leadership etc. They were just beginning to experience life and learning how they could contribute to the future.  I mourn for their families and friends.  They all had a piece of their soul torn away...never to be completely healed.  Only time will help make something positive come out of this horror.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families, the VT Tech university, faculty, students and the greater community.

At this time, we are all Hokies.  God Bless.

As a very old Wahoo (U.Va 1941) I convey my profound sympathy to  the families of  love ones who were lost and wounded in the horrible tragedy of April 16th. I convey my compliments to Director Sue Kurtz for her excellent presentation at the Convocation, delivered with great feeling. Hokies, be strong.

Our prayers are with you; those who were killed, and whose who were wounded in body and spirit. Now is the time for healing and remembering. May G-D soon heal those that were injured. May you remember your friends, fellow students, and teachers with love and lead lives of good values to praise them and G-D always.

As a member of Jewish War Veterans, who served with the 1st Polish Div.1st Polish Army ( 43-45)my heart goes over this totally senseless killings. May God the Father of us all keeps you in His embrace.
Posted By: Helen on 4/20/2007 4:48:00 PM

Even in the midst of all this brutality, some things shine out like torches in the darkness. One is the conduct of Dr. Liberescu, a Holocaust survivor. Given his history, one could have understood if he tried to save himself, but he chose instead to sacrifice himself to protect the students under his care, and thus glorify HaShem with his last conscious act. May his  memory outlast the memory of this evil.

Tears come to my eyes every time I think of the loss at Virginia Tech.  I also grieve for all the inocent losses throughout the world.  Let us all work for the presevation of life worldwide.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this tragic time. May the memories of those killed live on through the good deeds of their classmates, families and friends. Shabbat Shalom from New York City.

I work at a school and we have had special observances and the whole school wore the orange and marron colors with ribbons on our shirts. We will not forget what happened and you will be in our thoughts daily.

I am numbed at this trajic, senseless and cowardly act. As I light my candles and recite the Shabbos prayers, all members and families of the VT community will be close to my heart, and I will keep them there for a long time. May you be strengthened by others who are praying with care ,hope and courage.

To all of the families, friends and faculty at VTECH I would like to sent my deepest condolenses to all of you. As the grandmother of two college students I can't begin to imagine what you are going through. G-D bless you all.
Posted By: Tikvah on 4/20/2007 9:50:00 PM

There is no loss greater or harder to bear than that of losing a child, so parents you are in my prayers and thoughts. Be kind to yourselves, don't expect to ever understand it, or never to be angry at what happened, just try to heal and love each and every one you still have here on earth. We all bear grief for this senseless spree in our free society, wherein we can't keep our children safe. My heart goes out to you all.

I work at Trinity College in Washington DC. Our US Flag was at half staff today, Friday, in solidarity for this day of mourning. I was at a Jewish service tonight where all names were mentioned. May they continued to be mentioned as sparks of inspiration for us all to be better people. Ken Yehe Ratzon, May this be G-d's will. AMEN.

Aleichem Shalom. Please accept my deepest & most heartfelt condolences in the aftermath of this unspeakably horrifying & senseless tragedy; firstly to the family & close friends of the slain, but also to Hillel at Virginia Tech and the whole learning community. There are hardly words to address an act so heinous & brutal. Parents should not bury their children.
Shalom.

The unbearable and unspeakable tragedy that was perpetrated upon the Virginia Tech Community and Families were incredible and deeply painfull ....I pray for the families of those that were lost...for the Heroes who tried in vain to save lives( Prof. Livescu). and for those that survived....I pray that they can move forward and heal both physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Shalom,  We grieve with you and pray for the families and of the victims and their friends.
Is it possible that something good could come out of this terrible tragedy?  A more sensible mental health policy?  I have been told, that gun control as was implemented in Australia after a shooting as well as in England, is not on the table here. At this time, we are all hokies.  Hope this Shabbat gave you some peace, it will be a long road to wholeness.

As a grandmother whose college grandson lost two dear friends in an equally senseless murder while they were visiting another friend in Phoenix, Ariz., a few months ago, I know the struggles all are going through to make sense of a senseless situation.  Every parent and friend will find a path to be able to laugh again. My prayers are with you all.

We in the UK are saddened by the tragedy and our thoughts are with you.

MY sorrow is YOUR sorrow.  Children are children, regardless whose they are.  We can NEVER afford to lose them no matter how they're how they are lost.

Unfortunately, we Jews have another hero...the good professor.  May his family be consoled among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem!

In our sorrow, let us not forget the parents of that tragically sick killer, for they, too have lost a child.....doubly so!.
Posted By: Lindsay on 4/21/2007 8:34:00 PM

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at Virginia Tech. I'm so sorry that this happened. To think that it was just another day at school when this occurred... terrifies me. I believe that everything happens for a reason, but that HaShem does not owe us any explanations. From the Goucher College Hillel to the that Virginia Tech. Hillel and V. Tech community, we are all with you, spiritually and emotionally.

As a parent of young adults, I cannot help but grieve for the young adults and professors who lost their lives at Virginia Tech.  Without exception these were hard working, thoughtful people who will be sorely missed.  I think of them as America's finest.
