Hillel A Cappella Groups Featured on CD Anthology
August 7, 2007Comments (0) | Add | E-mail this to a friendNine Hillel-based a cappella groups have been included in a recently released music anthology CD featuring the best of Jewish a cappella.
The CD, straightforwardly entitled “The Best of Jewish A Cappella,” or BOJAC features multiples styles of Jewish music in English, Hebrew and Yiddish and is the first time an anthology of Jewish collegiate a cappella is available to the public.
“This CD is a showcase of Hillel’s Jewish students—and what better representation of Hillel’s achievements than Hillel students’ own voices, united in harmony,” said BOJAC Executive Producer Jordan B. Gorfinkel.
Jewish a cappella groups appear to be a popular offering as over 50 Hillels have indicated- through Hillel’s online Guide to Jewish Life on Campus- the presence of such a group on their campus.
The nine groups -- Shir Appeal of Tufts University; Kaskeset of Binghamton University; Shabbatones of the University of Pennsylvania; Kol Halayla of Rutgers University; Tizmoret of Queens College; Kol Sasson of the University of Maryland; Manginah of Brandeis University; Ani V’ata of New York University; and Pizmon of Columbia Univeristy -- are joined by several professional groups such as Beat’achon and Kol Zimra.
“Their collective passion and dedication to Jewish a cappella brings together Jewish songs of all different backgrounds while presenting a strong message to their audiences: singing Jewish music is hip, fun, and fulfilling,” writes Gorfinkel in the CD jacket. “That love shines through on every track.”
