Hundreds of Hillel students and a delegation of Hillel's Israel Fellows will descend upon Washington, D.C. at the beginning of June for AIPAC’s annual Policy Conference.  They will be joined by 6,000 community leaders, including more than 1,000 of the most politically involved pro-Israel student activists and campus professionals from all 50 states.

Over the years, AIPAC has given particular recognition to Hillel professionals’ contribution to the pro-Israel movement. Past winners of AIPAC’s Ally of the Year Award—which honors campus professionals who exhibit exemplary support of the U.S.-Israel relationship—include Hillel’s Aaron Weil, University of Pittsburgh (2006); Margo Sack, UT-Austin (2004); Leora Shudofsky, Columbia University (2004); and Rabbi Lisa Goldstein, UC-San Diego (2003). In addition, Hillel President Wayne L. Firestone, then director of the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC), accepted AIPAC’s 2003 Advocate of the Year Award on behalf of the ICC, and Hillel's President Emeritus Avraham Infeld won AIPAC’s 2004 Advocate of the Year Award for his efforts to strengthen the Hillel-AIPAC partnership.

"Hillel's yearly participation and recognition at AIPAC's annual Policy Conference demonstrates our close strategic partnership with AIPAC," said Hillel President Wayne L. Firestone.

Over three days, Policy Conference participants will have the opportunity to hear from leading White House officials, members of Congress, and Israeli government dignitaries.  Past speakers include President George W. Bush, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Senator John McCain, Senator Hillary Clinton, and Senator Barack Obama.

The conference includes a Gala Banquet dinner with half of the U.S. Senate, a third of the House of Representatives, and countless Israeli and American policy and opinion leaders, and culminates in a trip to Capitol Hill where delegates meet with their members of Congress to advocate for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.
