April 30, 2008Comments (0) | Add | E-mail this to a friend Tufts Hillel has announced the successful completion of a $6.4 million campaign, far exceeding the original fundraising goal of $5.8 million. The Campaign for Tufts Hillel Program Endowment is part of a larger university fundraising effort, launched in 2006, with a goal of $1.2 billion. This is the first time such a campaign at Tufts University has directed funds specifically toward Hillel programming.

Tufts Hillel serves more than 1,300 Jewish students on campus and plans to expand its programming the surrounding Jewish community as well.
“If we truly wish to have an effect on our university, on our community, and on the world, it is essential to partner with others," said Rabbi Jeffrey A. Summit, Neubauer executive director at Tufts Hillel. "We are grateful to the many donors who have collaborated to make this campaign a success.”
Tufts Hillel is the second largest student organization on the Tufts University campus. In 1994, the Granoff Family Hillel Center opened its doors to meet the growing need of students interested in Jewish campus life.
Through engaging programming and social activities, students have become empowered to take ownership of their Jewish identity through meaningful Jewish experiences. Tufts Hillel provides a range of outlets including community service projects, social action programs, interfaith dialogue, Israel advocacy and religious services. Tufts Hillel students have been nationally recognized for their work in these areas.

In addition to the $6.4 million raised in 2007-8, donors Joe and Jeanette Neubauer established a $750,000 matching challenge which created an endowed directorship for Tufts Hillel.
On May 1, Hillel board members, donors, parents, faculty, and friends of Tufts Hillel will gather at the Granoff Family Hillel Center to celebrate the completion of the program endowment campaign.
