 (l. to r.) Scott Brown, Hillel President Wayne L. Firestone, Aryeh Furst (Washington, D.C. – June 1, 2008) Scott Brown of Annandale, Va., and Aryeh Furst of Silver Spring, Md., have been named executive vice presidents of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. “I am thrilled that Scott and Aryeh have agreed to take on this role,” explains Hillel President Wayne L. Firestone. “They are highly-skilled, consummate professionals who understand Hillel thoroughly and are passionately committed to achieving our mission.” Brown will be responsible for overseeing Hillel campus operations in North America, including human resource development, organizational learning, accreditation, Jewish education, and student engagement. Furst, who also serves as chief financial officer, will supervise Hillel activities outside the United States as well as the organization’s fiscal and administrative operations. Brown joined the staff of Hillel’s Charles and Lynn Schusterman International Center, the organization’s headquarters, in 2003 where he expanded Hillel’s human resources program in the areas of recruitment, training and retention. He previously served as the executive director of Hillel at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1997-2003, overseeing the renovation of the facility and exponential growth in Jewish activities on the campus. Brown has a long record of achievement in Jewish professional leadership, including positions with Jewish community centers in Northern Virginia, St. Louis and Cleveland. He earned a master’s in management from Webster University and an undergraduate degree in personnel from Ohio University. Scott is married to Jane Schapiro Brown, a published author, poet and teacher. They live in Annandale, Va., and are the parents of three daughters, ages 20, 18 and 15. Furst joined Hillel’s headquarters staff in 1993 and worked closely with then-Hillel International President Richard M. Joel to bring about a renaissance of the Hillel movement. During Furst’s tenure, Hillel’s global operating budget more than doubled, reaching $89 million in 2007. Furst previously served as an administrator at Yeshiva University. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration from Baruch College of the City University of New York. He and his wife Debi have six children.
