Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and the National Jewish Law Students Association (NJLSA) are now working together to engage graduate students and prepare Jewish law students to become solid leaders in the legal and Jewish communities.

The NJLSA Constitutional Convention in March voted on major changes to the organization's constitution. Additionally, seven members were elected to the Executive Board and Board of Directors.

"NJLSA is heading in a new direction," explains Peter Rivner, president of NJLSA and a third year at Georgia State University College of Law. "We've been operating independently on local campuses for years. Now, we're combining talents and resources to better involve Jewish law students in the mission."

NJLSA, which is active on over 195 campuses, promotes the advancement of Jewish law students and addresses their unique challenges. NJLSA focuses on Social Action, Israel, Community Service/Pro Bono, Legal and Jewish Education as well as general support to Jewish law students. Increases in membership and new leadership have prompted local JLSAs to take a renewed interest in the organization's national efforts.

"Hillel and NJLSA share a similar mission," says Graham Hoffman, director of Innovation and Implementation at Hillel's Charles and Lynn Schusterman International Center. "Hillel works to enrich the lives of Jewish undergrads and graduate students. It makes sense that we would work together on this effort. Hillel is eager to engage future Jewish leaders including law students."

NJLSA is currently looking for Jewish community leaders and professionals with a vested interest in law students to serve on its Council of Professionals. Interested parties should contact Peter Rivner privner@rivner.net or Hillel’s Bittker Fellow Sarah Glauben at sglauben@hillel.org

NJLSA is committed to Jewish leadership through mentoring and community outreach. NJLSA seeks to create a connection between the professional and Jewish lives of future attorneys. Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life is the world’s largest Jewish campus organization with affiliates on over 500 campuses across the globe. Hillel’s mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish community and the world www.hillel.org.
