Following a summer-long makeover, the Hillel Second Generation (H2G) "house" was re-introduced to the North Dade Florida community with a "L'Chaim!" for Rosh Hashanah. Guests included the H2G Board of Directors, who received a plaque for their love and dedication to the organization, as well as community leaders such as Greater Miami Jewish Federation members, students and their families.

Preparation for the event, which took place just days before Erev Rosh Hashanah, began several weeks prior. Invitations were sent out via the Internet, phone calls, text messages, and by word of mouth. The students were eager to honor the Board of Directors for keeping the doors to their "second home" open and making it possible for Jewish young adults to meet each other in such a large community. They wanted the night to be very special.

It was decided that to celebrate the Rosh Hashanah holiday and wish the community a sweet new year the H2G "house" was to be filled with plenty of sweet desserts. Spreads of brownies, cookies and cakes were set out, along with coffee and sodas, and of course plenty of traditional apples with honey.

Throughout the night there were several special moments beginning with a presentation filled with pictures depicting to the guests exactly what H2G is all about and what awaits future generations of Jewish youth. Following this presentation Rabbi Mario Rojzman, of Temple Beth Torah in North Miami Beach, blessed the Hillel "home" by placing a Mezuzah on the front door.

Like any other joyous occasion, singing and dancing was an important part of this event. All of the guests joined together in singing Jewish songs in Hebrew, Yiddish and Spanish. Some of these songs brought back many childhood memories and inspired everyone to dance.
