Hillel professionals from the Charles and Lynn Schusterman International Center in Washington, D.C., and New York, N.Y., spent a day of service in their respective cities on Thursday, October 22, 2009.
In Washington, the staff members worked at the Capital Area Food Bank, organizing and stocking shelves, packing bags of food for individual families, and sorting food donations.
Staff members in the New York office volunteered with the Educational Alliance and helped elementary school children with art projects in an after-school program in a Lower East Side public school.
The day of service began with a discussion of Jewish and non-Jewish teachings on social justice and service. The day concluded with a reflection exercise.
