In the words of Golda Meir... Originally, I had planned to write a Purim shpiel-style editor's column to commemorate this light-hearted holiday. But in the past several weeks, Hillel has been on the receiving end of very sobering news, making such a column seem inappropriate.
February's anti-Semitic assault at Temple University, the shooting murders of two co-eds with connections to their campus Hillels, the tragedy at Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and the cowardly firebombing of a Hillel staffer’s home near Brown University have dampened many spirits.
In the midst of tragedy, we often find solace and inspiration in unlikely places. For me, this week, it was my desk calendar where I noticed the quote by former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir: "We Jews just refuse to disappear. No matter how strong the forces against us...here we are. Never has anyone been able to succeed in breaking the spirit of the Jewish people." Tonight, as we celebrate Purim -- the story of Jewish triumph over an enemy that sought to destroy us -- we remember the words of Golda Meir. Here we are. Chag Purim Sameach,

Yael Naim: The Voice Behind Mac's Newest TV Commercial Yael Naim has been making music since 2001, when her first solo album "In a Man's Womb" was released. But the 29-year old French-Israeli songstress is only now becoming an American household name thanks to Mac computers. Naim's latest single, "New Soul," is the catchy, angelic tune that accompanies Mac's newest ad for their ultra-thin laptop. Already a European celebrity, her popularity in the States is quickly growing. Naim's single has held a secure spot on the Billboard Top 100 Charts for six weeks (peaking at #10). She recently appeared on "Ellen" and just last night, performed at the Bowery Ballroom in Lower Manhattan. As the first Israeli pop star to break the Billboard Top 10 tells the New York Jewish Week, her success is an old dream turned reality.
Nancy Schwartzman: Crossing The Line While most people's painful experiences are confined to diary pages and distant memory, Nancy Schwartzman's are being made into a film. The Philadelphia native, now a New York City filmmaker, has spent the last five years working on a personal documentary about the line of sexual consent. In it, Schwartzman travels back to Israel to confront her rapist and captures the conversation on hidden camera. Pieces of "The Line," have already been screened at dozens of Hillels across North America and the film's final edit will be completed in August. In this edition of Hillel Campus Report, the rising film star opens up about her damaged relationship with Israel and what Jewish college students are saying about the film.

Hillels on Two Campuses Mourn Murdered Students Police in Alabama and North Carolina have made two arrests in the eerily similar shooting deaths of two female college students, both with connections to Hillel, on different campuses. Freshman Lauren Burk and Senior Eve Carson were killed hours apart earlier this month.
Hillels Respond to Mercaz HaRav Shooting Hillels across North America held events on their campuses to educate their respective student bodies about the incident and memorialize the eight students who were killed.
Freshman Entrepreneur Invents "Postcards for the 21st Century" Seth Priebatsch is not old enough to drink alcohol, but if he could, he'd probably be sipping champagne. In less than a year, the 18-year old student has turned a high school homework assignment into a full-fledged, incorporated company that recently signed a small deal with Google. Now, the underage entrepreneur is using his talents to promote Hillel and Jewish Life on his campus.
