President's Initiatives
Alternative Break: Hurricane Katrina Relief Alternative Breaks takes groups of students out of their regular surroundings and places them in different environments to engage in community service and experiential learning. As part of short-term service projects, participants are challenged to see and understand difficult social issues such as poverty, literacy, natural disasters, etc. and explore questions of Judaism and social responsibility.
Participate this winter or spring with your campus. Find out more about the program, dates, and learn about the hundreds of lives Hillel students have affected since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005. Campus Entrepreneurs Initiative The greatest asset on university campuses is student ingenuity. If ever there were a generation capable of reengineering and significantly altering the future, it is on campus today. With a combination of education, opportunity, and talent – today’s college students have the potential to dramatically impact the future landscape of Jewish life and the world at large. The initiative aims to dramatically increase the reach of Jewish life on campus through employing 12 student-interns per campus with broad social networks to build relationships with Jewish students.
International Development Hillel operates in thirteen countries outside the United States. Currently, Hillel is strengthening itself across the former Soviet Union, experiencing tremendous growth in Israel, and establishing a regional office in South America. Keep up to date with our international newsletter Passport.
Strategic Plan Implementation Now entering year two of implementation, this strategic plan sets forth a bold five-year blueprint for Hillel. It is multi-tiered and multi-faceted, complex and comprehensive. However, at its core is one central goal: “To enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish community and the world.” All other objectives derive from this single ambition.
Summit 2008 The Summit on the University and the Jewish Community is a biennial conference that convenes leading thinkers and practitioners in academia, journalism, philanthropy and the Jewish community to discuss partnerships that develop future leaders and strengthen our communities.
