Charitable Lead Trusts
A charitable lead trust is the opposite of a life income gift, in that you get the gift back when the benefit to Hillel is over. This "temporary gift" enables you to help Hillel build its endowment, or meet a specific objective, while obtaining significant tax and wealth planning benefits for your family.
You can create a charitable lead trust to benefit Hillel by irrevocably transferring assets into a trust for a set time period. The trust pays income to Hillel and then, when the trust terminates, the assets are returned to you, or pass to someone else you choose, typically a child or grandchild. A charitable lead trust can be an excellent way to substantially reduce or eliminate gift and estate taxes that might otherwise be due on assets you leave to others.
As with other planned gifts, designating Hillel as a beneficiary of a charitable lead trust qualifies you for membership in Hillel's Heritage Society.
