The deadline for 2005 has passed.Programs of Quality for the Jewish Campus Community Hillel's Elie Wiesel Award for Jewish Arts and Culture honors original, innovative campus-generated projects and programs that enhance the quality of Jewish artistic life, on the campus and in the general community.
The Award carries the name of the Professor Elie Wiesel, whose literary achievements have given voice to the essential Jewish values and the soul of the Jewish people. His is the language of art: whether written or spoken, his words convey that which is inspired and enduring in the Jewish experience.
This is an honorary, not a monetary, award.
Objectives
- To recognize the achievements of the Hillel movement in promoting Jewish identity through the creative arts;
- To create a environment conducive to Jewish artistic growth and development;
- To encourage students to explore and understand their Jewish heritage through artistic experience and expression;
- To expand the opportunities for Jewish involvement through expanded artistic resources and networks.
Award Categories
- Performing Arts: Film, Theater, Dance, Music;
- Visual Arts: Painting, Sculpture, Photography;
- Literary Arts: Poetry, Fiction, Expository Writing.
In accordance with the objectives listed above, nominations must demonstrate that they:
- Originate on campus
- Enhance the quality of Jewish artistic life on campus
- Have significant student involvement in planning and performance or if a creation by an individual have had a demonstrable impact on Jewish campus life.
EligibilityThe competition is open to all organizations and agencies that serve the Jewish university community. Applications from individuals must be endorsed by the Hillel or other Jewish campus staff.
ApplicationThe application must be postmarked by
July 1, 2005 and the application cover letter needs to include the following information:
- Organization
- Nomination Submitted by (names and titles)
- Phone
- Fax
- E-mail
- Project Title
- Project Date(s)
- Signature of Hillel staff or advisor
- Date
Attach this cover sheet to the following:
Narrative:
Must include a description of the student involvement in the project (the planning process, student profiles, number) and impact on campus life (Limit: 1000 words)
Details
- Illustrative material may be submitted.
- Faxed nominations will not be accepted.
- An agency may submit only one nomination for each award per year.
- Nominated programs must be submitted to Hillel's Program Exchange. Please be sure to check the Wiesel Award nomination box on the submission form in section 2.
- The decisions of the award committee are final.
