Alternative Break Follow-up Grant
The Nathan Cummings Foundation has provided funding of campus grants for Alternative Break follow-up programming. Each Alternative Break should be viewed as an ongoing experience - from registration to beyond students' return home. Weinberg Tzedek Hillel encourages Hillels to design creative and meaningful initiatives to be planned by professionals and students together, in order to increase the impact of the experience.

Criteria
In addition to the general grant criteria, initiatives must:
  • Be on-going or continual projects focused on maintaining participant connection and involvement
  • Be specifically designed for follow-up programming
  • Be directly connected to the Alternative Break experience
  • Involve the returning participants
  • Either offer a more in-depth experience for participants, or have broader campus impact
Alternative Breaks Includes:
  • Spring and Winter Breaks
  • Domestic and International
  • Pesach Project
Suggested Project Ideas
  • Teaching/speaking in local schools, Hebrew schools, synagogues
  • Photography exhibit of students' pictures
  • Advocacy/activism on related local issues
  • Ongoing speaker series on Tzedek related topics
Funding
Each funded program will receive up to $500.

Checks will be issued to Hillels and appropriate organizations only and will not be issued to individuals.

Deadline
Grants will be reviewed on a rolling basis through May 15, 2006.

Evaluation
You must submit the program to Hillel's Program Exchange within one month of the completion of the program. If Hillel's International Center does not receive your evaluation within one month of your program, your campus will be ineligible for another grant for the remainder of the academic year.

Publicity
All materials and publicity must state that funding for the project has been made possible by: Weinberg Tzedek Hillel.
