Hillel's Jacob Burns Endowment in Ethics supports a wide range of initiatives designed to foster the transmission of Jewish ethical principles and values to Jewish college students as well as the broader campus community. The Grants are designed to stimulate awareness on campus about ethical issues that are relevant to the lives of Jewish college students. Grants will be allocated for an array of quality projects that represent a diversity of campuses. Projects could include, but are not limited to, campus discussions and workshops, retreats and conferences, scholars-in-residence, and campus-wide forums. Applications are accepted from Hillel Foundations, Hillel Program Centers and Hillel Student Organizations.
CriteriaIn addition to the
general grant criteria, proposals will be judged on their relevance to the student population and the degree to which they involve students, Jewish and non-Jewish, in raising awareness and acting upon Jewish ethical values. Proposals will be judged based upon the following criteria, which must be demonstrated in your application:
- The selection of various target populations of Jewish students, the general campus community, and the community at large for participation in the program
- The ethical issues to be featured in the program
- How the initiative will raise awareness about the ethical issue(s)
- How the initiative will transmit Jewish values pertaining to the issue(s)
- How the initiative will instigate action among the students to serve as change agents on campus and in the community
Funding will not be offered for:
- Exclusively social justice (tzedek) focused programming
FundingMaximum Grant: $3,000. Only one proposal from each agency will be accepted annually. Proposals must follow the format of the application and must demonstrate all of the criteria listed above.
